locked iphone

Hi all, hope this is right place....

I have an iPhone on contract with O2 since 08, I lost the iPhone 2G, I dropped it in a taxi (well I had it in there last) reported this and O2 locked it and I had a new 3G model, this was about a year ago.

A few weeks after I lost my original phone, I bumped into the same taxi driver and I said I think i had dropped it in his taxi, lo and behold it was in his glovebox and he was "going to return it".

since then I just used it as a iPod Touch, as this facility still works.

I've recentyl updated all the software and restored it and found a spare o2 PAYG sim for it. Is there a way to unlock it so I can keep it as a spare PAYG? for free?

What you are talking about is unblocking not unlocking - there is a big difference, not least that unblocking is illegal.

I think it will be. I think the only way to legally unblock it would be to contact o2 and ask, but I think they will then call the Police to investigate and verify the registered owner.
  • well that will be me, I've still got a contract with them for 2 iPhones, my original contract which was this phone I lost so re-newed and had a new replacement phone and a contract for a second iPhone for my wife.. so if I speak to them just see what they say is it?

exactly, in terms of the law there is no such thing as "unblocking", what it illegal is changing the IMEI.

As the legal owner, all the OP will need to do is phone o2 and ask them to remove the IMEI block from the blacklist. Once done the phone will work again.
