Gateways issue

Hello
At work I have two routers, one for broadband and the other for an Isdn connetion. Does anybody know if we can specify which gateway the info goes through. The isdn is only for 2 companies from one program and the broadband is for all emails and web access. The problem comes when the internet is trying to be accessed using the isdn as it keeps conflicting. Our IT support chap doesn't seem to have the answer??
Thanks in advance.

    yes

Do you know the ip addreses that the ISDN data is going to?

Then you can set the adsl router as the default gateway and you can use static routes to direct the other traffic
type the following in a dos windows replacing the values for destiantion ip and ISDNGateway
route add destination IP mask 255.255.255.255 ISDNGateway

if it works then create a batchfile and set it to run at startup. if you have the details and get stuck give us a shout

ohh and sack the IT chap

This is really only a soulution if you only have a few systems, static routes can/should be added to the default gateway so everything goes to the gateway and it redirects the traffic but your admin may not allow you to edit the router config

    Little John is spot on.

    A few other little pointers:

Use nslookup xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (in a DOS window) where xxx is the destination IP address for the ISDN program to find out the current router it uses.

If your routers IP are as follows: 192.168.0.100 for ISDN and 192.168.0.200 for Broadband then 192.168.0.100 would be the ISDNGateway specified in LJ's example.

You can use route -p add to force the connection rule to apply after you have restarted your PC.

I agree with LJ about your IT chap, if he didn't know the answer, he's not very resourceful!

Yeah, i agree with Little John. I was going to ask you how your network is set up... as playing with the local routing tables can cause trouble when trying to network with other machines depending on the type and complexity of the network and surrounding nodes.

An alternative solution (only if the router is set up correctly as a proxy server) is to simply specify this as such in the network settings for accessing the internet.

Its often handy to look at the current local routing table too.... which you can do from the windows command line... by typing route print

Thanks for the help from both Little John and nickmack. I have to say I feel a little out of my depth but I will give it a go.
I have reservations about the IT chap! They now have a little more substance!
