I have a CD-R/RW Drive and want to get some new discs. It says in the book 16x record 10x rewrite 40x read. Can I get any discs for this and is the difference between R and RW that the R you cant rub out and reuse but the RW you can?
Thanx

Your drive will write to most media except DVD

CDR are recordable but can only be writen to once the speed is irelevent really most disks now say they are 40x or 52x

CDRW are re-writable so you can write to them wipe them and start again, they are good for data but dont waste your time using them for music and movies very few cd players or dvd players will read them.

the cost diference isnt really worth CDRW a cdr is about 10 times cheaper than a CDRW I have CDRW but never use them anymore.

The values dont really matter when it comes to the disks your drive will write to is full capacity anyway if the disk is rated lower than your drive rating then it will be limited by the disk but you will find it hard to find slow disks now.

Thanx I'll just get CDR then.

Does that mean they might end up sounding a bit funny if I've got faster discs than my cdwr because it will struggle to slow t down?

No the drive will write to its capacity, if it is a 16x drive it will write up to 16x on what ever disk you give it as long as its 16x or higher, if they are under 16x then they are old disks and should be avoided becasue they could cause data loss some of my older CDR that i wrote about 10 years ago on my 1x writer no longer read and have changed colour. I can remember being the only person to own a writer the joys of 1x writing over an hour to write a disk and failures were common.

The music or data being written is just that 1's and 0's the speed they are writen doesnt matter its the device that reads them that translates the 1's and 0's to what ever they are

Cd writers claiming stupidly high speeds only actually write at those speeds at the end of the writing process anyway
