And I hope you have an Economy 7 meter 'cause otherwise your electricity is very expensive.

Actually no, my electric would be more expensive on economy 7 meter. You need a certain level of night time usage to make it pay, and my A rated washing machine on a 30 degree wash just doesn't bump up the water heater usage enough to make it worth it. And don't worry I have done the maths.

No, I was suggesting that your tier 1 prices are similar to those of Economy 7 tariffs - I know of no non-E7 tariffs with a unit cost that high.

Most NSC tariffs actually do have a standing charge but they cunningly hide it by having the tier 1 and tier 2 prices with tier 1 more expensive and tier 2 only kicking in when you have used so many units of tier 1.

The standing charge (assuming you use all tier one units and actually make it into the tier 2 rate during the charging period) can be worked out by

tier 1 rate - tier 2 rate * units required at tier 1

think i'll go for EDF online v5 with standing charge (i can't see a non-SC version.)

From what I can make out theres a difference of pennies between SC and the equivalent NSC tarriff and the only time a NSC charge tarriff really comes in handy is for holiday homes and when your rental home is empty.

Suppliers would rather see standing charges as it guarantees the return of a fixed cost.

Customers* would rather see banding as they presume its cheaper.

*not you guys obviously you have brains...

Door stop sellers often just use unit rate differentials to get sales and ignore bandings and standing charges, because there are lot of easily conned people out there.

The new ofgem rules should help a little though.
