Best way to appeal car park fine?

Just when I'm doing well...I manage to get a car parking fine!!
What really annoys me is that I had paid for the ticket and thought I was doing the correct thing. I even overpaid by 20p as I didn't have the correct change!
Silly me, didn't read the bit that said 'you must be a permit holder to park here before 09:30am'. I was there long before. D'oh!
I've now got to fork out £35 if I pay within 14 days, otherwise it's £70. I have seven days to write an appeal - strictly no phoning.
Anyone got any suggestions? I'm in the wrong, I didn't read the sign but even so...it's worth a try surely?

was the bit that said you needed to be a permit holder very clearly stated? thats the only line of defence i can think of, to say it wasn't obvious if it wasn't, maybe they might consider an appeal.
best of luck

rotflmao, personally i'd have a bash at that, say that as you are vertically challanged you didn't want to risk an injury which you would have had to sue them for by craning your neck to fully see the sign which is not placed for people of a disadvantaged height, you feel its unfair you have been penalised in this way.£2 saver club 30th sept 198 £2 coins = £396(£350 banked)0 -
In my experience if you contact them within the seven days and appeal then even if it takes longer than 14 days to deal with and they decide you should pay the fine it would still be for the £35.
If you write to them explaining that it was an honest mistake say you were in a rush. havent used that car park much before. Explain that the ticket was paid for and that you just hadn't realised you required a permit. Include a photocopy of the ticket to show you were paid up at the time the fine was issued. They can only say no and that you have to pay.
I paid short on a car park ticket dont think it excepted my 50p so got 2 hours shorter than i thought and got a ticket. I wrote a letter explained what had happened included photocopy of parking ticket and they let me off.
No harm in writing the letter and seeing what they say. Don't worry keep smilingLightbulb moment 19/06/2006 £14,835

Maybe point out that the machine should not allow you to pay until the permit holders only period runs out - no wonder you were confused!Proud DFW Nerd #62

i'd recommend this site, a mate forwarded it onto me yesterday - i'm not sure how long it's been up and running but it seems like a decent idea - https://www.fcukfines.com0

Thanks for all of your comments! I have now written my letter and popped in the bit about being too short to read the sign easily! Thought I'd inject a bit of humour into my letter...ya never know! :rotfl:0 -
I had exactly the same at my local train station.
I appealed along the lines of "don't understand why I've got a fine,... here's my ticket clearly timed before the time written on the fine notice,....displayed clearly...think its been issued in error".
I hoped the appeal guy wouldn't notice that the fine said "no display of permit" rather than "no display of ticket". Well I got my response to my appeal today and they have turned it down! So that's £35 down the drain. I am so annoyed especially as it was a genuine mistake! :mad:0
