E-book sellers have a similar status on ebay to traffic wardens, bailiffs, the tax man. You get the idea.

Do you have enough feedback? Your hardware might not be getting good prices if you have, say, less than 5 positives. In this case, I'd suggest building up feedback a little then trying again.

Let's face it, we always advise people who ask NOT to buy computer hardware from people who have no track record in this area. It's too easy to not get what you pay for. I doubt anyone will post here and say - do this, because if they're being successful, why would they choose to help a potential competitor?

I think you're being more than a little naive to think that making £100 a week profit selling on ebay comes under the category of "just".

Anyway, the easiest thing to sell on ebay is something that is a name brand product, new and sealed (if appropriate). Obviously, something like that is going to cost you money in the first place. Say for example you can purchase product X for £8 and sell it on ebay for £10. Sounds like £2 profit - sell 50 and there's your £100. Right? Wrong. You have listing fees, and paypal fees, and the hassle of mailing out 50 packages, and the time to deal with those purchasers who can't (or won't) read, and that's always supposing there are 50 people who want your product every week.

It isn't as easy as it looks, which is why I don't sell stuff.

    Edited to add
    I see we've cross posted - you're not a total neophyte.

Ok Ok I'm not going to just agree with bleugh again...I'll add something different.

Firstly a target of £100 might seem small but to get that sort of money your turnover needs to be huge. Ebay fees, paypal fees time spent fiddling around ansering emails all need to be accounted for. I don't know how other sellers get on, but I would estimate looking quickly at my accounts that my profit is only a tiny part of my turnover..so you are looking at going straight in at powerseller status which is £750 turnover per month.

For someone trying to crack the market that is a big target to start with.

It was the mention of e-books that made me think you had little experience. Well that's obviously the way to do it - find a niche that you know about and exploit it. Unfortunately, the niche is often tiny (as you've found). Good luck, anyway.
  • Spurs1234, if it were that simple, we'd all be making loads of extra cash on eBay. What to sell partly depends on how much time you can put into it. If you don't have a great deal of time to dedicate to ebay, you probably want to be selling multiple identical items which don't need listing individually, and which are easy to pack (e.g. just shove them in a jiffy bag or something). If you have time to photograph, weigh (to check postage), measure if appropriate, and write a good thorough descriptive listing for each of many items, you could sell a wider range. I think if you want to make £100pw with minimal initial outlay, you're going to have to start small and build up towards that target gradually. Whatever you choose, research is important.
