Barclaycard on credit report

About 6 months ago I got my credit report and, I noticed that there was a credit card in my name open - it said it was a Barclaycard. This card only appeared to have a £200 limit I do not recollect ever having such a card.

I wrote to Barclaycard in January and April and so far have had no response. I contacted the credit agency Experian who so far haven't come up with anything either.

I also phoned Barclaycard customer services who have no record of a card in my name open at any of my recent addresses.

Is there anything I can do - I don't like the fact that I have a card that I don't know I have.

Cheers
Liz

Well you've telephoned and written to them without success. It's now time to invoke their 'official' complaints procedure. Details at http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/Customer_Service/Help/complaints.html

At least if they don't respond this time you can take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman.

You might wish to 'formalise' your complaint with the credit reference agency as well. Check their website for the complaints procedure.

Thanks for the help Yorkshire Boy, i will send a letter with copies of my previous letters to the complaints department. I'm just confused as to why if (supposedly) it's an open account customer services can't find any record of it.

Could it be a card that Barclaycard run for another company (though I don't know of any myself)

Never heard of them - however seeing as Barclaycard have no record of me I can try them. Just tried Googling them and although lots of reference to Monument, there doesn't appear to be a website.

Sorry to keep hassling you YorkshireBoy, you don't know where I can get a contact number for them do you?

However Monument is a "brand" as such, and Barclaycard should still hold details on their system regardless.

If you fail to get a response from the Credit reference agency / data controler, then I would escalate to the Information Commissioners Office, as the Financial Ombudsman would have little enforcement power other than asserting an opinion in this case.

If it has been over 40 Days since your first request, and the data controler has not validataed the data then the ICO will force the removal of the data as unsubstantiated.
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them

Another Barclaycard 'brand' is SkyCard (0870 333 5470), although £200 credit limit better suits to Monument ...
