Tax Credits

Hi
I am a single mum of two little boys (Matthew 7 and Stephen 4) who has endured two agonising years of tax credit blunders. They didnt pay out for childcare for the first three months when i returned to work (£660 x 3 - a lot of money for a single parent) then they got the payments wrong, i had to be paid manually for 18 months as my claim 'stuck in their system' then they recalculated it wrong. The straw that broke the camels back was when they claimed to have over paid me £10,000 OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS!!
I have involved my local MP over the last 18 months but this notice just broke my patience of the apathy and complacency of the tax credit office and the government.
So my campaign began with a lot of research into the problems of the tax credit system and the horrendous stories from thousands of other individuals that echoed my own experience. To this end I went to the press, the Treasury, the opposition party leaders and the CEO of the Citizens Advice and started my National Petition to the House of Commons for investigation and reform of the tax credit system and the mis-management of revenue.
I know this is a lot to read but since my story and petition featured in the press I have had an overwhelming response and support. I have also received a persoanl apology from the Paymaster General's secretary and a lot of interest from the shadow chancellor's office. The tax credit office have also personally apologised and after a two year fight have now admitted that I do not owe £10,000, blaming it on computer errors.
How many of us are repaying overpayments which are not questioned? The system is too complicated not only for us but for those who calculate our claims.
Please, I speak for 2 million people in this country who have been overpaid and are having the money painfully clawed back, log on to my website https://www.taxdiscredit.co.uk and sign the petition to be taken to the House of Commons telling this Government that the system is not working, contrary to their belief, and that they are causing misery for thousands if not millions.

For any further information on myself or my case, I have supplied a link to the press coverage for anyone to read:

* please note that anyone who signs the petition their names and addresses are used solely for the purpose of the petition. I have contacted the information commissionaires office to enquire of any obligations under the Data Protections Act. Your details are logged into a database, they are not on the site. Good for you, Tracy. Even with all the news coverage about tax credit "overpayments", a lot of people still don't realise that the alleged overpayments don't always exist, and the IR's figures are often no more accurate than those which led to the "overpayments" in the first place. I hope this petition becomes really huge.0

I sometimes think that these fiascos are deliberately created to provide 'work' for the unnecessarily over-sized ranks of government pen-pushers. I've been on the end of this one too, and my family have gone short as a result. I've signed - good luckEek! Someone's stolen my signature! :eek:0
