Rail Offer Glasgow to London

Trying to find out where I can get the best offer on Glasgow to London by rail for this summer - June or July. Virgin is coming up at about £35.00 rtn is that likely to be the best I can get. I have seen offers in the papers in the past but are they available for peak times?
Thanks for any help.

If I were you I'd snap up the £35 return! I think I've only ever been able to beat that by getting a 'bargain berth' on the Caledonian Sleeper and/or the seated sleeper section.

 You bein serious? Double that price and yer still gettin a good deal...........!!
  • Too early to book yet, but check out East Coast trains from Central to Kings Cross. It goes via Edinburgh so takes a wee bit longer but can sometimes work out slightly cheaper. Though £35 return is good!

Where are you getting prices for June/July?

In theory, it might be possible to get Advance Single tickets for £12 each way. But not until much nearer the time.
  • Keith P - Can you tell me where I will be able to find these advance single tickets. Last couple of times have flown to London but it takes longer than train by the time you get into central London. I have only booked the train to London once before and that was a long time ago and that was by phone in response to advert. Have just booked travelodge sale for late May and as that is holiday weekend cheap seats will disappear quickly so need to know when and where to look so that I can monitordates being released. Know can get cheap bus with Mega bus but would prefer train.

I found them on the East Coast Trains website.
If you enter From: Glasgow Central/Queen Street, and To: London,
and choose a date of 15 Jan, it will show you trains for that day.

Now, the first box under the Fares heading says £12 to £124 single, and if you hover the cursor over that box it says 'Std Class Advanced Single'.
That information tells us that Standard Class Advanced Singles are possibly available for that journey from £12 to £124.

On the date I have chosen there are no £12 fares.
But it is theoretically possible that they are available on other dates.

Now can you please try to answer my earlier question...

  • Info came from colleague at work who regularly travels this route with Virgin. They told me £35.00 return are available all year but need to watch for date they are put on website. At the moment flying is still cheaper.

And it will probably remain so until the cheaper train tickets are released.

This National Rail webpage may help you spot when the cheap tickets become available.,
