Help ... i had a letter through from this company about 4 weeks ago saying that i owed £41.65 .. which had been passed to them by British Gas

I contacted British gas who said they would investigate the claim because the dates that showed on their records i wasnt living in the address ... anyway i got back in touch and they said that the balance had now been reset to £0.00 ... as it had been a mistake! however the phone calls started from the buchanan clark and wells people! demanding i pay this amount over the phone! or they would pursue court action

I have rung British Gas twice to ask them to ring the debt company to state the account had been cleared ....
i also rang them and told them they said that they couldnt take my word for it and would need to hear it from British gas! ... and that until they had heard anything action would still be prossesed ..
i assumed that after my second call to British Gas that it had been delt with

yesterday i had a letter from the debt company saying that they are prepared to assist me by preparing to accept a payment of £29.16 in full and final settlement to this debt! ....

I DONT owe this money and British Gas doesnt seem to have been in contact with them what do i do ?? please help ?? Ive tried ringint them before and they just dont want to know and are very abrupt on the phone and last time the woman hung up on my because i wouldnt agree i owed the amount

Go right to the top of British gas and tell them what they need to do.

Tell them to send a fax to this effect, get them to send a copy of this fax adn its confirmation to you at your home address.

Next time the DCA call you tell them to go away, and that you will only deal with them by mail. Any breach of this constitutes harassment and this is not acceptable.

Send them a letter stating that you have had it confirmed by British Gas that this debt is NOT yours. If you can enclose a fax from them to support this. Advise them that if you hear from them again you will pursue this matter as a harrassment and contact the police. Make sure you send it recorded mail

Ive just rung BG and the lady i spoke to say that the account was still with their "minder" team which deal with debts . but she said she could see that not only was it at £0.00 balance but i was actually in credit by £20.00 !! what are that company on ???

Im now waiting for a letter stating this which i can then foward to Buchanan .. she did say she would be in touch with them also
