What a great post from Jo Jo Tightfisted!
I agree that every cat is different, but it seems that we in uk are moving towards the USA model of cat care which is much more based on indoors kitties medicated up to the eyeballs.( As opposed to the sling 'em out at night time and feed them on scraps model I was brought up with )
I believe that indoor cats are at higher risk of auto-immune problems and allergies, as well as behavioural problems...so I guess there is no easy answer!0 -
When I got Daisy, she went outside, took a look around & went back in! She'll prowel around the landing (Like Fire Fox,I'm in an apartment block) but go no further.I put it down to her being kept caged for nearly her whole 3 years at the Assisi as she does'nt mix with other cats.0

Thankyou for everyones advice. Unfortunatly I can't enclose the garden any more than it already is as I don't think the neighbours would be too pleased.
Also the area isn't the safest place for the cat as we have a large wooded hill on one side (with lots of little holes for him to explore!) and the beach on the other but you have to cross a busy main road to get to the beach. It is a cats adventure playground out there (complete with plenty of phesants to chase!) and any cat would love it. I just wish he would be more careful- he obviously didn't learn when it came to the bees/wasps!!!!!
He is neutered and has PLENTY of toys and an activity centre to keep him occupied when indoors- he's got it too good me thinks!!
I will let him out and see how he gets on, I don't want to be cruel and keep him in if he wants to go out. Hopefully he'll behave himself- although I don't think he'll ever learn. :rotfl:Every time life knocks me down, I just stay on the ground for a bit and look up at the sky for a while. Eventually I get up and have a cup of tea.0 -

Give him time. I'm sure he'll calm down - I've had cats for many years and they always seem to settle down after the first couple of mad years. It sounds like you're already doing all the right things. I hope it all works out."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0
