You can easily get a telephone number if you want one. Set up a free VOIP account with Sipgate (https://www.sipgate.co.uk) or similar provider. Make sure you get assigned a real normal number in the area code of your choice. I have a very useful 0207 number even though I live outside London.

If you then configure a VOIP client it will all work as a normal phone (someone calls your number and you answer) or if not then at least you can have the free number's voicemail answer and e-mail the message to you which still allows you to write a normal-looking number on the application form.

I agree though that if you already have a card elsewhere why would they care about phone numbers.

Just found out that Airmiles have finally ditched Natwest and moved to Lloyds TSB

You can double your miles by going with them as Lloyds are giving 1 mile for every £10!
That's only if you use the Amex card.
