ScottishPower 'In Home' Pay-As-You-Go Service Up and Running
6 November 2009
Following last month’s launch of the first service in Great Britain that allows prepayment electricity customers to top-up credit from their own home via the internet, ScottishPower has announced that the service has been working well and that feedback from customers has been positive.
The service was first launched at the start of October 2009. Customers can find out more details at the Sp website or by calling 0845 270 3333.
paparika here, just rang them, they charge £13.99 to send one out.
I did tell them that another company was doing the same thing free for their customers, and i was thinking of switching before i heard sp doing this...
So the kind lady said oh we are able to give so many a day away free let me just check for you..... oh we have 2 left for today.
So i have one on the way about 10 - 12 days,
So just a warning Scottish power may want to charge you, regardless if you are housebound
I was lucky that i asked, so do check, they DO give out free ones. 0 -
British gas do a scheme called essentials which is charged at a lower rate for disabled people i have been with them for about three years and find them okay. Have had energy suppliers at my door asking me to swap to them but no one can beat it and they have all told me to stop where i am.0

Update
Today received package, it was my top up usb contraption.
Firstly wow that was quick only ordered it Monday.
then the fun and games, couldn't use on my pc as it didn't support windows 7
so fortunately i have a spare pc with xp on, then it didn't like firefox, so needed to use internet explorer, then my key needed to be married up to my meter, it then said that my meter wasn't my usual meter, (hmm well i think it is, it's the only one i use), after the initial flapping I'm charged up and happy that i only had to step outside my front door to go to my meter.0 -
Following on from a post earlier about cheaper water for disabled,is there any help for disabled people to get cheaper gas or electric?
Thanks.
I have been disabled for nearly three to four years and my bills were really getting to me, most of these companies i.e utilities tend to forget that they are not the only individual company to whom at certain time of the month you need to pay. The gas and electric were the worse with culprits with their threats and obnoxious demands.
it was not until i mentioned by letter and by phone that i was going to legally take their action as harassment. i was paying them both sixty pounds a month as both my gas and electric were with the same company so what was their problem? i could understand if they were getting nothing but a hundred a month?
lets keep it real, until i stated in correspondence that i had had enough and was going to legally do something about it, that they changed their tune and make it public knowledge to me that they had a policy in place to help people that are disabled. i am now paying less than a hundred a month which means i can afford that extra can of pop..lol
talk to your supplier, there are many things out there that are for the disabled and such the like. but why t is not public knowledge is beyond me.0 -
I am now on this tariff. All I had to do was phone up explain my disabilities and what money I get monthly and that was it. I did not have to be referred by CAB or benefits or anyone else.N-Power have a social tariff called 'Spreading Warmth' but it is not always the cheapest apparantly and you now need to be referred by such as the CAB or another organisation in order to benefit from it. You must also have a gross income of under £13,500 per annum and have someone over 60 or someone chronically sick or disabled or a child under 16 living at the property concerned.
Details here: http://www.npower.com/Spreading_Warmth/Content/Homepage/index.htm
Tally
Maybe its changed?Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p
