What to look for in a laptop?

Bit of help please. looking to buy a laptop for home use. My opinion is that most people by laptops/PC's that are far to highly specced for what they need. My current PC was the cheapest i coud find in Staples about 5 years ago, and has really poor spec like 80GB Hard drive, 256 MB (!!)RAM etc (with some added a couple of years ago). Only reason I want to change is its very slow to boot up and noisy , and we need somethng a bit smaller in the house, altho otherwise what we have is ok.

I use the PC literally ALL the time for surfing, email, shopping, word processing, internet radio, itunes (about 700cd's worth) photos and just started with a camcorder, altho no real plans to do editting or anything fancy. No need for films/TV or games.

So, in short, what spec/manufacturer/OS etc should I be lookling for for this. It seems to me that 300-350 quid would get me something light years better than what I have, so why spend more.

Advice...?
Skint: (adjective) The tendency to turn off the grill when turning the bacon.

Think skint - it makes things simpler

  • Something similar to ebuyer.com/product/179694 would definitely be light years better than your current one.

    What to look for:
-OS : Windows 7, this is the latest and best running Windows OS
-Spec : Dual core processor, 2 gigabytes of RAM, decent sized hard-drive to fit all the CDs
-Manufacturer : Doesn't really matter too much, budget laptops will be near enough the same, so it's personal preference really.
