HI,
I've just booked a few days camping in Whissendine, Rutland.
If anyone knows the area and can recommend any good things to see or pubs/eateries to visit while we are there I'd appriciate any pointers
We have a car and dont mind roughing it a little, very interested in any music/rock pubs but are just as happy to sit about in the countryside watching the world go by.
Cheers

Rutland was just within the range of places to go for a day out when I lived at home so I don't know any pubs / places to eat but -
You have to visit Rutland Water - huge lake with lots of activities. I think you can hire bikes and cycle round it, boats, fishing, picnics, several cafe's etc.
Belvoir (pronounced locally as "Beever") Castle (ancestral home of the Dukes of Rutland) - one of the most spectacular stately homes you'll ever visit, several films have been shot there
Oakham - county town of Rutland - very olde worlde place
Melton Mowbray is nearby - another nice town and home of the pork pie (I don't like them myself!)
Rutland is a quaint place with lots of thatched roofs and has a 1950's feel about it, quite rural.

Hi Stella,
thanks for the info, sounds like we'll be spoilt for choice.
Gonna make a special effort to visit Belvior Castle as my OH's surname is Beaver LOL
Simple minds like simple things eh?
