Seek advice before employing someone as self employed...as they might have to be employed rather than self employed Even if they can legally be self employed they might still have "worker" status in law so still be entitled to NMW.

100% comms can work well where someone is an agent with a portfolio of different products, perhaps in this case if they are visiting a business to sell them building insurance they could also offer them healthcare. It might not work so well if you want them to be 100% dedicated to selling your product though...perhaps agents are the way forward at this stage though?

Unless someone is going to be a partner in the business I don't think you should expect them to effectively help grow the business on a reduced wage. Have confidence in yourself to pick an excellent sales person and give them a healthy mix of job security and incentive, most people will steer clear of 100% comms jobs as that is usually indicates low pay.

Make sure you pay them what they are due in full on time, if you start messing about with their wages they will become demotivated which costs you sales and they normally leave shortly after
