I'm not sure whether you're talking about Faster Payments or BACS? If the former than the below page gives details on Faster Payments implementation broken down by institution and their respective limit:-

If you're talking about BACS, then I'm not sure. I don't see why Barclays would have a £10k FP limit, and only a £5k BACS limit? You're statement about Nationwide also seems to suggest you're talking about BACS, seeing as they have one of the worst implementations of Faster Payments (£10).

Yes I was talking about BACS transfers via online banking. The £10K I was referring to was the 10K that the OP said you could transfer at Natwest. Being able to transfer £10k from Nat West is twice the £5k I was recently told was the Barclays limit although someone has reported it's now £10k at Barclays too. I dislike barclays online banking as you can't see old tranactions or statement so I take money out cash from Barclays and walk up the road with it to nationwide as I prefer their online banking.
I was talking about BACS transfers at nationwide too. Their FP is going so slowly, the £10 is only on new accounts so very limited.

It sounds like Nat West is inline with Barclays

According to the information in the link provided by jambosans.
    http://www.ukpayments.org.uk/faster_payments_service/value_limits/

Barclays process standing orders up to the value of £100000 by faster payments.
So you could set up a one off SO to transfer up to £100000 the following day.
Faster than BACS and 10 times the BACS limit.

The faster payment only work if the both the account sending the transfer and the account receiving the transfer are set up for faster payments. EG - I've got an old nationwide account so I could send a FP from Barclays but as the nationwide account doesn't accept FP it would still take the good old 3 to 5 days. Enen if I had a newer account it would only accept a FP for £10.

I do like the idea of a one off standing order though, sounds like a good way round it even if it would take 3 days. I think I'll carry on poettering from one bank to another.

No, the £10 limit with NW is for sending, they can receive the maximum no problem. (for FPS enabled accounts obviously)

    Cheers, Des.

No - changed a few weeks ago to £2500 per transaction (along with Halifax/BOS).

Can you not have more than once account and split the money. I personally do not think its a good idea have all your eggs in one basket. You could even have 2 accounts with the same bank, I have with Natwest,
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!
