Cashback and credit cards

I'm sure this will be in the forum somewhere, but the obvious searches didn't bring anything up so hopefully I can get a quick answer or be pointed in the right direction.
I've read Martin's tips and I'm about to get a credit card that offers good cashback rewards and I will pay it off in full at the end of every month.
I'm hoping to spend absolutely everything I can on it.
My question is this...
If I use it to buy groceries (say 5 pounds worth) from my local Co-op and then ask for cashback (say 40 pounds) does this count as a spend of 45 pounds and clock up the rewards accordingly, or does it count as a 5 pound spend and a 40 pound cash advance which I understand is a no-no?
Any help would be appreciated...

cash back has two totally different meanings ... in general you can't get cashback (i.e. money) from a store when using a credit card only when using a debit card

Ah, so if I use my credit card to buy 5 pounds worth of groceries and asked for cashback, they would say - "sorry you can't use a credit card to get cashback"
