been looking around
Homeserve have a £15.98 pm service which cover boiler, service and CH, with a 28 policy wait.
They have another policy for £27.25 which covers all boiler, service CH all cold and hot water pipes, electricals, wastes and window and lock repairs. This has a 14 day policy wait.
Problem is that homeserve dont give any gurantee of call out visit or time.
British Gas - have a policy £17 pm boiler & CH & service. I think its a 14 day policy wait. Its £3pm extra for gtd same day service.
Npower is £12.98 for boiler & CH only (i think this is using homeserve).
Any advice, feedback or help welcome from using the above companies.
Was thinking of asking any local heating firms if they provide cover, but concern was they may not offer as good service or being smaller may be prone to going bust or paying any large damage claims.
Homeserve boiler insurance . rubbish rubbish rubbish
Boiler brokedown on 24th Dec 09 . phoned them, they said no chance to get someone to fix it . fair enough xmas time and people have families .Guy from Halstead boiler arrived on 29th dec and on 30th he changed the fan . He went and boiler brokedown on the same night. called again they told me engineer cannot be arranged before 7th of jan.took day off work on 7th Jan but due to snow he cannot make it.fair enough took next day off as well but he didnt turn up . he switched off his mobile. Tried the call centre at 5.35pm and on hold for 38 min and gave up now again onhold from last 65 min . useless people and useless Halstead "GOLD" boiler .0 -
Its called RECOMMENDATION - don't you have any friends or neighbours?
Yes - over time. But I'm not convinced they know much better than me, and people I have used have been good and bad on various occasions. If I have to do anything significant, or maintenance related, I have people to use, but it's the random call outs that cost a lot, and where this £17 per month seems a good investment.

Now you are looking for excuses to bolster your position. The problem she had is one of the most basic in the book with poor circulation in a vented system. The utility company providing this so called service sent various muppets round with no experience and even less knowledge. Why do they use them? - because they are cheap and the first diagnosis is nearly always "you need a power flush" which is, of course extra to contract.[/QUOTE]
Fair point, but I still don't see how you can be sure a local person would be much better. I can only speak from my experience, which has been that the people haven't been too bad, at least that I can tell!

Even when they leave you without heat and hot water for 3 months?

But this hasn't happened to me, the OP asked for opinions. I know 4 people with a BG contract, and all have had significant work done, and been broadly happy with the service.0 -
p.s. I reserve the right to completely change my mind next time they come over and make a mess of it!! ;-)
And you just have to learn to swiftly brush over the 'powerflush' discussion, and the engineers are normally willing to let it go.0 -
Anybody got any views on Homecall Lightning, which appeare to let you take out cover as and when you have a fault with your boiler, obviously it costs more about £190 a year but seems to be a good idea as an alternative to taking out cover now or keeping the money in the bank just in case. Any thoughts welcome0
