Electricity Charges

Hi all. Can anyone help me with this? My wife and I moved into a new property in Jan 07 and my wife had presumed she was paying gas and electric through N Power. We did a meter reading when we moved in and again when we rented the property out in December 08. We have just been presented with a bill from 'EON' for £852.42 completely out of blue for charges from when we moved in. Is right and acceptable that they can take 3 years to send a bill? Thought I'd get some ammunition before phoning them up to challenge it. Thanks for any help or advice.

Does that mean she was or not? Have you actually been getting bills from and paying money to Npower? What kind of dates and meter readings does this EOn bill cover? Is it all estimates? Is it from before you moved in perhaps?

I think you need to speak to both companies and get more information. It's most likely just a mistake on their part. As long as you have been paying someone something you are probably ok.

    Hi Tabjones,

When you originally moved in to the property and took the readings did you pass these on to either npower or E.ON? Did you inform either/any supplier that you were responsible for the bills as off the move in date?

My concern is if you never told E.ON (or npower for that matter) that you were now responsible, either party would struggle to bill the right people and accurately.

Do you recall ever receiving any energy bills or making any payments?

As jd87 says if you’ve been making payments it hopefully will just be a mix up that is easy enough to explain.

    Brian :)
