The obvious next step for ebay?

I do agree that ebay will always do what is best for them regardless of users, however if you look at most of the new headline changes they have actually been buyer focussed. Even free postage on media could be seen as best for buyers as one thing we used to get thread after thread about was 'I've been massively overcharged by seller on postage' . With free postage or 'inclusive' postage buyers can see what they are going to pay and it is comparable then to other media sites like Play or Amazon. Likewise we used to get threads 'I can't neg my bad seller as they will neg me back' has now been solved.
So carrying on in that vein I can see ebay forcing free postage in all categories. It won't matter then what service a seller uses as buyer will just see an end price and sellers overcharging will just slowly die out as they can't keep any buyers. I don't think we need an ebay service for postage per se as buyers are already protected, their item doesn't arrive so they get their money back, simples.
Obviously ebay may surprise us all and make the next lot of changes seller centred, but since selelrs are easy to get why would they bother, all a site wants is plenty of buyers and sellers will follow. For a site without any real buyers just look at ebid who now seem to be losing more and more visibility as the sellers realise they can't run a business on there.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. ebay like to keep a distance from their buyers/sellers
so paypal is kept seperate(sort of)
if they became the postal operator or joined with one then it would be a but close to home i would think
you will never get a courier beating RM on low end prices so they would need 2 tier set ups
also they want the large volume sellers who will often have their own courier/RM account0 -
i sell on ebay use royal mail for parcels lighter than 2kg and larger parcels through cashback sites use either parcel2go or parcel monkey courier services, save money & get cashback in for the bargain! for convenience people will use ebay facilities but i'm all for saving money so this is my personal choice. but fairplay to ebay, just doing what they do best and thinking of new ways to expand and make a buck!0

i dont think they are to be honest!! just the OP thinks that ebay should do it, im sure if ebay were thinking of doing it it wouldnt take them very long at all to put into place and we would all know by now through ebay announcements!!A good friend can tell you what is the matter with you in a minute ...:A0 -

they could easily negotiate a deal with a courier
however they would be unlikely to get any great deal as its no cheaper for the courier since its not a large contract from one collection point0 -
yep, and plus for little items a courier service wouldnt work. they would need to open stores EVERYWHERE really like the post office, and match their prices, and all services.
it wont happen, and i think they know that and thats why they have never done it!!!A good friend can tell you what is the matter with you in a minute ...:A0 -

I don't have time to write my next message in this thread, but I have to respond early to this.
In your post above (my emphasis) you have entirely misrepresented what I am saying. I do not think that ebay "should do it", or that it is the right thing to do, or that I would like it to happen. I am discussing what ebay might do. This is a very, very, different thing.0 -

you state in your first post:
"I think there would be considerable advantages to ebay if they did this."
talk about contradicting yourself then!! Saying that basically says you think they should, and if u dont, and think like everyone else it is a bad idea, why even post it in the first place?! you are only saying it now because u can see how we have all clearly shown it would be a stupid idea, and are trying unsuccessfully to change your wording
saying you are thinking of ebay wont work too. are you an insider then are u?? because unless u are involved with ebay it is of no advantage to u, and if anything, it would work against u, because as a user of ebay you would be hit with higher charges.A good friend can tell you what is the matter with you in a minute ...:A0 -

All the OP is saying is that he can see the advantage. He is in no way suggesting this is what Ebay should do. I can see the advantages to the UK joining the Euro but it doesn't mean I actually want it to happen!
Predicting what Ebay will do next is essential to running a good business. Its called foresight, keeping your finger on the pulse, whatever.
And so what if the OP is thinking of Ebay? He's simply had an idea, which tbh, has also occured to me and many others, I'm sure. None of us "insiders". Just people who are capable of seeing varying points of view and getting ideas from them. No need to launch a scathing attack.0 -
whats the point in even suggesting it?? it aint going to work and at one point even agreed it wont, if you are running a good business then you run a good business and it wouldnt affect you no matter what they do, because u can find a way around it. however, panicking and writing a thread oon here to see if people think it will happen, is showing its clearly not a good business being run
end of the day, ebay is doing fine, sellers and buyers are doing fine, royal mail and all our other couriers our doing fine. they have no need to change it. no problems need no fixingA good friend can tell you what is the matter with you in a minute ...:A0
