Best way to set up Sony Bravia Equipment

Hoping sombody can tell me the best way to set up my equipment. I have a sony lcd tv, and a seperate sony dvd surround sound. I have connected these together via a hdmi cable as they are both Bravia compatable so I can use my SS remote for my t.v.
My lad got a sony ps3 for xmas which were keeping downstairs, I was flicking through the instructions and it says its bravia compatible, plus we wouldnt mind using the blue ray discs on it.
I have a spare hdmi port on my t.v so am i best just puting it straight into my t.v or should I connect it via optical cable to my surround system and if i did this could we then use surround sound for blue ray? surround sound only has 1 hdmi port, am I asking too much! Is there any other way, and any disadvantages...Thanks for any help you can give.

As the surround unit only has the one (Im assuming OUTPUT?) HDMI then obviously that needs to be connected to the tv
The ps3 will need HDMI to the tv and optical to the surround unit. You cant get HD sound this way but it will be possible to get 5.1 dolby digital and dts (Assuming the unit has DTS)

  • The ps3 and the SS have a square optical port, is that dts? Il buy an optical cable and try, im not botherd about Hd sound just using the SS with the ps3. thanks for your help

No, DTS is a type of sound format that your amp will either have or wont (Doesnt matter as just about everything with DTS will also have a Dolby Digital format too)
That said it will get sent down the optical line
