Double Glazing Warranty

I think this is the correct place for this post, so here goes...
3 years ago I had new double glazing, sold with a 10-year warranty.
One of the window locking mechanisms shattered so I can't close the window. It's a ground floor window too, so big security risk. This had to be fixed.
I phoned the company and was told that they've been taken over and they are no longer honouring the warranties. The company trades by the same name and premisis.
The invoice has just arrived for £35. Should I pay?

surely they should have sent a letter stating that they arent going to honour warranties. i wouldnt pay and id stand your ground. how were you able to foresee the company being taken over??? if the warranty is with the company, irrelevant of who owns it then they have to honour it. for all you know they could be lying about the change of ownership.0

Do you know if it was an insurance backed warranty ?
Most glazing firms that offer a 10 year warranty actually offer insurance backed warranties which means your claim is against the insurance company if they go out of business. I would dig out the paperwork and check.

Did you manage to get the money out of them?
I have a similiar problem. Had windows fitted 2 years ago, now got problems. The company does come out to look at the windows but it takes me calling and moaning, on average it take 8/9 calls to get someone around. I am still waiting on a replacement part.
Does anyone know who I can complain too, the insurance firm?0
