In an amazing bit of luck, and customer service totally unlike Aldi of years gone by, I gave them a phone call to report my parents' broken grill, and they said they'll be posting out a cheque by way of refund.

I guess they've had so many go wrong, they're just cutting their losses, now. At least it's sorted out.
