All in one printer/scanner not scanning!

Hi, I know this is probably a really simple problem but I can't get my all in one printer scanner thing to scan.

It prints fine but comes up with the error message ' scan error - try scan from computer or see documentation '

I can't see anything in the paperwork or on their website and it seems to want to scan to reprint ok just not to my pc

Any help much appreciated!

    Hi Brown_suga
You are not making yourself too clear.
For example "will scan to reprint". What does that mean?
Check the cables are plugged in. Reboot PC and printer. I guess the printer works in copy mode by itself.

Firewall unlikely to prevent printer use, Is this connected by "wireless" or Ethernet cable? Or USB cable?

Are you trying to scan a document and print without the PC -I.E. Using the printer as a photocopier - or scanning a document via PC or scanning a photo to picture editing software?

Reinstall the drivers and printer setup disc.
Make and model would help. Contact the manufacturers help desk.

i think they are printing/scanning from the quick buttons on the unit, not through the software. those buttons are usually crap.

try go to My Pictures (Assuming you have windows XP) and wait a bit for it to load fully. Then when the side board fully loads (on the left), under picture tasks, click on "get pictures from camera or scanner"

Sorry for not making myself clear.....

    Its a HP C4580

I've re-booted both, its connected via a usb

When I say scan to reprint I mean that there is a button to 'scan' the 2 options come up one to 'pc' and the other to 'reprint' if i choose the reprint option I see a small version of the pic and all I need to do then is print, but if I choose the option to 'pc' it wont work so I can't store anything I am trying to scan, I hope that makes sense

Launch HP solution center - scan picture/document buttons are there, either should work.
