Moving no cooker

We are moving soon to bigger house, when I went to look around there was a cooker in the kitchen and I mentioned to the estate agent that it was a good thing since that was the only thing we didnt have for ourselves. We are renting btw. I saw it just before chrismtas, was happy with what I saw and paid the ref fee and holding deposit. Had a call from the estate agents this morning to say the ref have gone through fine, which I was sure they would but the landlord is not leaving the cooker in the house unless we wish to buy the cooker for £150. It is a very nice range style cooker but still I dont even know if it works. We have a 2 week overlap with our current rental so in no hurry could get a new cooker when we get the keys but that is obviously gonna cost more than the £150 one, really not sure what to do and I'm a little bit fuming at the estate agents not saying something earlier.

thanks thats what I was thinking, its pants I could have done without it but at least it'll be sparkling new too. I was hoping to get a new dining room set when we moved but it'll have to wait now.

They are trying it on. Tell them to remove his second hand cooker in advance of you moving in, as you are going to buy a new one. It's going to cost him a small fortune to remove it, and put it into storage.

Worst case is that you buy a new cooker for £300, best case is he leaves it behind.

I'd write or e-mail back stating that, as it was there at the viewing and was discussed with agent, the cooker forms part of the contract.

If you haven't signed the lease contract, then this won't work. The EA will likely deny any recollection of the conversation, in any case

I think as you expected the cooker to be in the property and the LA didn't tell you that it wouldn't be (when you said it was good that it was there) you could say that you expect the property to be as it was when you viewed it - cooker and all.

If that brings no joy, I'd call his bluff unless you really want that coooker. He may leave it in the property anyway. And remember, it will still be yours when the tenancy ends. It might not fit in the next one.

Another week or two of void for the LL would outweigh the £150.

George I did think of saying we would pay for the cooker but instead of moving on the 15th make it the week after. We havent actually set the date with them yet. I've let them know we will not pay for the cooker so just have to wait and see if they leave it. I dont really have the strengh right now for an arguement so if its left its a bonus if not we'll get a new one.
