Npower - werid bill???

Hi All,

After moving into an all electric house recently, I have had my first proper npower bill, which is slightly confusing...

The tariff I am on is listed as - Economy 7 Meter/Monthly Direct Debit.

I would of thought that I would have a reading for DAY and one for NIGHT, or PEAK/OFF PEAK, but instead I have DAY and PEAK 0800 1300.

The Day rate is 5.820p, and the Peak is 13.810p. There is also a Standing Charge for the Day rate of 29.900p per day. There is no breakdown for price of first 728KWh etc.

Between 29/4 and 12/11 I used 3444KWh at Day rate and 1221KWh at Peak rate.

Does anyone else have a bill similar to this? Is it good, or should I change to a current tariff listed on their website?

Many thanks

Ian

E7 has 2 registers so having 2 registers look correct. BUT the day rate is normally larger than the night rate for E7.

As you have a Standing Charge you will not have a band on the day rate so there will be no charge for first [x] kwh.

I have a list of npower tariffs going back a few years and can not find anything that exactly matches your prices. Are they Inc or Ex Vat and where do you live?

Best option would be to ring npower as something doesn't look right!
  • Hi Bark01

These are ex VAT. I'm up in Shropshire near Oswestry.

I don't want to call them just yet in case they change me to a tariff that works out more expensive. If I do only pay 5.8p between 1300 and 0800, then that seems quite good?

    Cheers
  • I think Bark01 means you have got them mixed up-day-rate will be much bigger(more than double)the e7 night rate.

Something is wrong with this. Most if not all E7 tariffs have 7 hours at one rate and 14 hours at another rate, the 7 being the night which is cheaper. 0800 to 1300 is not 7hrs which everyway you look at it. You may find other tariffs such as E8 or E10 but the tariff name normally reflects the number of hours night you get.

  • The bill definitely says Day 5.820p, Peak 13.810p.

Looks like it's time to try customer services, Oh joy!
  • Ok, so I took the plunge and phoned npower.

Very pleasant woman explained that because of my meter, I so not have standard E7.

On my bill, DAY should have read Off Peak, so I get...

    8am-1pm Peak
    1pm-4pm Off Peak
    4pm-9pm Peak
    9pm-8am Off peak

So it looks like I'm actually on E14????

This explains why I never seem to get a cold storage heater towards the late evening....

Time to start manually switching them off to save more money!!!!
