I am buying a car in Germany to take down to Spain.
I need to insure it until I get it registered/insured in Spain.
Has anyone any experience of doing this and names of insurance companies that will issue polocies for this type of cover.
Thanks

You may find it easier to Insure the car in Germany as it is registered there. Virtually all European Countries (Excluding the UK) issue an annual greencard which covers you to drive anywhere in Europe, this is because our European neighboors tend to drive over the borders for work, shopping etc.
You will probably find you will have to reinsure the car in Spain to be able you to register the car there, so it would be worth finding out the cost to cancel before you commit yourself to the German policy.
Luckily for you there are lots of Insurance brokers in Germany that are situated next to or on UK army bases in Germany. Their staff deal with the UK forces so they speak good English (A lot of the staff are army wives). If you need any contact details for any of these brokers post up here0 -
I doubt you will manage to do it. You're not resident in Germany.
I would also look at doing it from a Spanish insurer as presumably you are resident in Spain?
Failing this, I would hire a vehicle trailer for a long weekend from a German (or buy one and sell it in Spain) then transport your car down to Spain, job done!0 -
Wig the UK armed forces who are based in Germany are not "resident" in Germany, they are regarded as being resident in the UK when on an army posting.
European Insurers work on a very different basis than the UK market due to people crossing the borders so frequently.
The other option is asking a Spainish Insurer to cover it on the Chassis Number on the basis you are importing the car to then reregister. This might work but my knowledge of Spainish Insurers is not as good as on German0 -
Thanks for the replies guys.
I have just spoken to the garage where I am viewing the car, he will arrange two weeks cover for me.
