It's very easy - you keep the same account. I downgraded from a Gold acct once I'd joined MSE.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

I have the classic current account but i am constantly asked when i go in branch would i like to upgrade to a better account luckily for me i know its a fee paying account .
Why would i want to pay for an account when i can have one for free,i know you get a few things thrown in like breakdown cover etc,but there is nothing worthwhile that makes me interested in paying the fee.
Don't know how easy it is to go back to the classic once you have ungraded,i bet they would makeit difficult, they want everyone paying a fee.

    They've tried that with me.

"But you can get worldwide travel insurance" - Thanks but I rarely leave the UK. Certainly not often enough to benefit from that.

"But you can get all your credit cards protected by a scheme so if you lose your purse...." Thanks but I don't have any credit cards.

"But you can get breakdown cover" Thanks - already have it (and I got cashback on it!)

"But....but...but....you'll get a very pretty coloured new debit card" Honestly - is that the best you can do? :rotfl:

they trtied flogging me a pay for account

    i was the same
"breakdown cover?" dont have a car
"free worldwide insurance?" not going anywhere til next year
"credit cards covered if they are stolen?" you mean if my cards are stolen and i call with crime number, you wont refund any fraudulent charges?
"well yes we would" then why should i pay for that service that you offer for free?

    was funny at the time,
    63 mortgage payments to go.

    Zero wins 2016 😥

I downgraded from Gold to Silver than to Classic within a month of joining MSE. Just sign a piece of paper at their branch, they will send you a new card and it's done. Easy.
  • If you were not given the option of a classic or even a basic account - then the silver was missold to you.
I would ask for all the service charges to be refunded.
You do this by asking for a leaflet 'How to voice your concerns' and phone the number to register a complaint.

no i def was not given the option of a classic account. They were really trying to sell me the platinum account which i refused , i will pop into my local branch this weekend and pick up a leaflet.

    Thanks for the advice !
