When mine were very little ,I made all the baby food from scratch.
We used to make our own meal but not add any seasoning or spices until after i had taken some of it out for the baby food.
Another thing we did was look at the nappy situation. We already used washables but began buying the big rolls of cotton wool instead of all the fancy wipes and using plain cooled boiled water for clean ups.

What might be of help are the various "Getting Started" threads that are all collected in a section of their own in the MEGA Index sticky. These are full of tips that you can browse and use the ones that fit you best.

There's also a collection of budgeting and shopping tips in the mEGA Index too.

Lots of reading - hundreds of good ideas.

Re the washable nappy issue. Have you tried fleece liners on the 11 months old. They really help keep them dry as it wicks the moisture away. A really cheap fleece blanket can be used and cut up into rectangles no need to hem. Poop just drops straight off it down the loo so its not that yucky
