Carpooling?

Maybe this is strange to ask, or maybe it happens a lot, but has anyone ever seen people advertise lifts to get to places? I know that sounds a bit like hitchhiking
but I thought if someone was going down to, say, London that they might advertise for other people to come with them to save on petrol, or make money off it.
It's just that travelling can be so expensive, it pays to book early but sometimes people don't get the opportunity, or there are times when you have to take like 3 trains, a bus, and a taxi just to get there...
Maybe this sounds stupid ...
But, sometimes, it's better to ask then not at all.

Not too strange a question.
Google 'carpooling' and you will find many sites with this service.
Usually based on area, but I have never used any so cannot recommend any.0 -

I've seen sites that offer such a service before, as anothe poster says usually by area. You can either register a regular journey or a one off.
Just a word of warning, whilst I do think it is an excellent idea, be careful about making money from a journey as this could invalidate your insurance. I believe that most policies cover car sharing arrangements (but do check) but not for a "profit" basis. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.
Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.
MSE Aim: To have more "thanks" than "posts"! :T0
