Just seen someone get stopped

Just been to local Tescos, someone was using self scan and put through several coupons. He went to leave and was stopped on suspicion of shop lifting. From speaking to a member of staff he'd been seen on a previous occasion putting blank pieces of paper in the vouchers box, and had used invalid vouchers (not off what he'd bought) this time and they wanted to check what he'd put in the box. She said basically it is theft and he shouldn't be so dishonest. She also said they had already had someone taken away by police for similar this month. She said that they are changing the system so non tescos coupons need staff authorisation at tills. Looks like those who take the pee with things like this are spoiling it for those who save a little every now and again with coupons.
Silly silly man.

our local tescos won't take coupons through the self scan tills so we've obviously had someone abusing the system too.0

Our tescos has stopped too. I went to self scan last night (luckily enough I was doing a normal shop and had no vouchers) but they had a big taped sign over the coupon acceptance slot, saying ask a member of staff if you have any coupons!!!0

got to say my heart goes out to him......think he would be doing this if he was well off?
I dont think so
Watching a program about prisons on tv other night looks like he might be better fed in there. It was like a hotel with televisions, gym, carpets.
If I was elderley and struggling with no friends or family I would be sorely tempted to shoplift.0 -

Firstly if he was putting plain pieces of paper in he deserves what he gets. This is stealing in my view. However if I was arrested for putting in a coupon that 'their' computer is designed to accept then I would take legal proceedings against them.Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -

Completely agree. If the Tesco scanner accepts the coupon, then how can it be an invalid coupon ??
But if he had been putting blank pieces of paper in, then yes, he has brought it upon himself.

My Tesco has been authorising coupons for months and staff have told me it's because of blank bits of paper going in the slot and well out of date coupons. The staff do sometimes open the box to check the dates on coupons which is different to Asda where there's no authorisation required. People who put out of date coupons and blank bits of paper in the slot deserve everything they get as they spoil it for the rest of us.0

I think anyone using self scan will need to be careful now.If a cashier accepts vouchers you cant be blamed they can only say "no"......so my advise to anyone needing to use vouchers is do several small shops and use a cashier not self service.Ironic really how tescos self service idea has backfired on them.I tried using 1 lousy voucher today and it had to be authorised much to my embarrasment0

depends how tesco define "blank paper".......why not put a coupon in anyhow as they have a cut off date.....unless it was points vouchers he was reusing.....did you see the staff remove blank paper?Chances are they are using this term for vouchers for items he hasnt bought...why bother going through tills.Wish i knew outcome of this.If it was me I'd go to press over it.0

Hi Our Tescos have just replaced the self scan with normal operator tills. Looks like it could be the end of the self scan..............0

For the first time ever I used two coupons at the self scan.
I really didn't think they would go through but they did.
They were for £2 each off somerfield wine. So I got £4 off a £20 shop.
My purse is rammed pack with them but I didn't want to take the p***.
Ironically, one of the coupons jammed and the girl forced it in for me!!
I was shaking the whole time but then I thought if the till accepted it I done nowt wrong.
But, like earlier discussed it takes a few abusers to spoil it for all of us!!Third time lucky on WW I hope :j
