URGENT help required lighting ideal elan 2 boiler...

Hi,

Not long moved into house, and the boiler has just packed up this evening (why does this only happen at the worst time!)... It is an Ideal Elan 2 and through the little hole on the boiler, there seems to be no flame visible. I have no clue how to relight it, and I can't seem to find any instructions, can anyone help?
Thanks

    Hi,

No it has a glass cover which slides upwards, and I have managed to find the installer manual, and it says to switch off mains and switch switch off, and to press a "overheat thermostat reset button" but I can't find anything but the temperature dial and the on/off switch.

    aaargh!

    ps thanks for your reply!

Does it look like this? This pic shows an elan with the smoked brown glass panel removed.

Does it have the orange button on the right?

    Hi,

The boiler itself looks like the picture but the controls look different. I don't know how to upload a picture but basically we have a dial for the heat level (this is like an old fashioned volume button) and an on/off switch (which only has 2 positions, not like the one in the photo)...

Model number is NF240... oops and forgot to say - no orange button...

    Thanks again,

The large orange "clonker" on the posted image is to manually relight the pilot. If you don't have one its electronic ignition. Could be the gas solenoid or pcb. It could also be a dirty pilot or the spark electrodes need adjusting.

Prolly needs a service. When did it last have one? Sorry but suspect you are in for a cold night and making telephone calls in the morning to get someone out to it.

    Cheers

I suspect it will be the auto ignition/fanned flue model then and therefore the pilot light doesnt need lighting as it automatically lights. Presumably when you turn it on,a fan can be heard to run?

I cant recall if there is an kind of reset button. Have you had a look on the top of the case?

If no reset button can be found then its probably faulty as its a fully automatic boiler with no manual lighting of the pilot.

    Oh dear!!

Think it was serviced early 09 by the previous owners, but who knows whether it was done properly? Had a look at the top of the case, and tried all of the things we could do ourselves but no joy, so think you are right, it is faulty, I just hope it's not terminal!

Thanks for trying to help, I really do appreciate it... g'night all...

Think if you look in the gap to the left of the brown lower panel (the one with the switch),,then look on the side of the control box,the reset button might be there. Little plastic pop out thing. If it resets when you press it,,fine,,if it doesnt,,boiler prob needs attention.

    Just another quick check.
Make sure the flue outet isnt blocked with snow.
The boiler sensors would detect that the flue is blocked and stop it lighting.
