I'm buying a new console tomorrow anyway, if microsoft fix the old one ill sell it as a refurb on ebay, if not oh well ill already have a new one. Typical that it finally breaks 2 weeks after i get it flashed though.

Microsft rarely check it unless something looks odd they "MIGHT" investigate it further, its still worth a shot.

Bear in mind if you buy a new console tomorrow that has the manufacturer date after Aug 2009 you can't flash it, or atleast not at the moment. The new liteon drive is unflashable currently (when I last checked before xmas). If your current console gets repaired i'd keep it, get it reflashed and use it for offline play.

I'm going to buy a preflashed one from ghost2fitter "Xbox 360 LT Upgraded Elite 120 gig inc 1yr Warranty & Delivery" £239 seems worth it.

Cool, I cant recommend ghost2fitter enough they were great and I used them before doing it myself. The elite in the shops is £200 so its an extra £39 for the flashing well worth it. Out of interest what F/W has he said will be on it 1.7/1.61 stealthed or unstealthed?

I havent asked yet, it just says "These systems are updated with the LT firmware. Live play at customers own risk." on the info page. All ive asked so far is if they are jasper chipsets as from what i can gather they seem to be the best atm.
I gety a £50 refund from gcmods failed fix aswell so im only really paying £190 since i have that extra £50 again to put towards it. Very good deal.

I was about to say i'd be surprised as when I checked on Monday there was still no ETA for the LT firmware, but after checking it looks like it got released on Tuesday 19th Jan. Couldn't have timed it better really as if you had bought one last week you would definetly of had the old firmware.

Ordered it now so I just need to wait for it to turn up and I can finally get back on to assassins creed 2.

Is it possible to use Live or LT firmware? Or am I still better off without it?

All flashed consoles run the risk of being banned when using the live service. If you choose to connect to live you have to accept the risk of a ban.

I'm waiting to see what happens before I connect to live for the time being. I have one friend who has just flashed with the LT firmware and hes back on live already. Only time will tell.
