There's another thread extolling their virtues. I'm guessing that the couriers are perhaps self-employed contracted to HDN. So some people will get great service, others not so good, depending on how conscientious the couriers in your area are."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

According to the tracking information the parcel has been out and back to their depot twice. Yet I haven't received a card saying they have tried to deliver. Not even to the main door of my block of flats as the drivers they use don't know how to ring a doorbell and hence just shove the card under the main door in the theory that someone out of the couple dozen people who live in this block will pick it up and put it under my door
Fortunately - after going through this rigmarole several times with them - I do have their "local" (ha ha it's a 40 mile round trip) phone number - so tomorrow I will ring them and go and collect my items. Though no doubt they will hum and hah because I can't produce a card and won't let me have the package without producing evidence of my name, address, blood group and inside leg measurement.
The REALLY REALLY annoying thing is that this order was sent in two parts on the same day - the first part arrived the next day with no problem because it went through Royal Mail, the latter has taken a week to get to this stage.
Does anyone know if you can find out how a particular item will be delivered so that I can decide whether to buy through Amazon again0 -
alanrowell wrote: »Why do I put myself through this pain. Yes, it's happened again. Two items bought through Amazon - PO delivered one of them within 2 days of order, HDN have allegedly tried to deliver twice yet there's no sign of card or parcel. Ho hum, back to the phone calls and the 40 miles round trip. At this rate I'll be invited to staff parties as I spend so much time there
..and have you informed Amazon of this issue?0 -
Unbelievable - after e-mailing Tesco yesterday to cancel the order and telling them I've bought it elsewhere (actually I got one from their shop but they don't know that) HDN turned up with it today in the 5 minutes my OH had gone to the shop, and afte presumably knocking and not getting any reply they pushed it through the letterbox without getting a signature.
A person less honest than me could easily claim it hadn't been delivered.
Perhaps it wasn't sent on a "signature required" service. The majority of Tesco parcels are "non-pod" ie, a signature is not required.0 -
I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses for bad service, I'm most definately not. But bare in mind that HDN are now the biggest business-to-home delivery company by a long way. Service levels are way above industry averages at over 99%, but obviously 1% of such a high volume equates to a very large number of failures.
As you can guess I am a driver for them and it p's me off to read these messages and others on the internet. The vast majority of drivers do a good job under alot of pressure and having not seen a pay rise in over 3 years. I work in a depot with a highly motivated staff and management where incompetance is not tolerated. When it becomes known that a driver is systematically failing to do his job he will not last long.
It is so disheartening to hear that so many other depots seem to be letting down the company. It seems to be a lottery as to whether you are served by a depot that is properly run or a driver that does his job properly.
Although it should be noted that the same is very true of Royal Mail also. Just have a wee look on the internet for post complaints...HOLY MOLY!
As an aside, I have had a couple of complaints against me over the years for allegedly posting cards through doors without knocking or ringing the doorbell. Why would I do this?!?! If I've taken the time to get to the door why would I bother not to knock?!?! If I knock on the door and wait a reasonable time for a reply and get none, and I don't find a neighbour or safe place to leave the parcel then the customer gets carded. I can't help it if the bell has a dodgy button or the customer is sneezing at the moment i hammer on the door! Ironically one woman complained that I had knocked too hard on her door. We can't win.
I'm not apologising for drivers who dont give a monkeys, but please DO NOT label us all morons. We most certainly are not. Its like saying the all Resaurant workers are idiots just because you had a bad meal once.0 -
I was not aware of this company until recently. I placed an Amazon order last week, estimate time
for arrival was 25th - 26th May. I received an email from Amazon on 23rd May saying goods have been dispatched and expect arrival by 25th (yesterday). I decided to check tracking details on Amazons site when I did not receive the package.
On the 24th May the day after it was dispatched the tracking history reported the following message,
"Possible delay in delivery due to arrival at incorrect carrier facility". The next day on 25th it had the same message followed by "departure scan". Finally, I thought the problems were sorted but the next
report later that day came up with the same "incorrect carrier facility"
I logged in earlier today and now the status of the package is "departure scan". So in all I have had 3 different incorrect carrier reports and 2 departure scans. We are now at the end of the working day of the 26th and still no sign of my package.
From what I have heard I don't hold any hope of getting it by this weekend, in which case I will be
cancelling the order and asking for a refund. Never had any such problems over the years with DHL
or Parcelforce. I will be contacting Amazon and asking why they changed to HDN.0 -

I get various items delivered by HDN and have never had any problems with them.
It's clearly a few rogue drivers that are giving them a bad name. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Following on from my post last week, I finally received my goods the next day. I questioned the driver
about the delivery problems and he says problems do occur with packages going to wrong depots and then having to be sent to the correct depot for dispatch. He also stated that their work load has increased, that would be the reason for the delays then.0
