Hi I'm not sure where to post this but perhaps the mods could direct it to the right place????
We purchased our Nintendo Wii about a month after the launch and have had much use and good times from it so you can imagine how upset we were when it stopped working last October time (well out of it's warranty period). We were ready to bin it and buy a new one when we decided to call Nintendo up to see if they could help. They talked us through some steps to try and rectify the problem that didn't work and told us that we could return it to them using a FREEPOST label and they would investigate the fault and provide a quote to us for the repair. With this we sent the Wii off they investigated the fault, and sent it back saying they could not replicate the fault and all was well. The Wii then worked for a while but packed up again so another phone call to Nintendo and it was sent off again. This time they found a fault and offered to repair it for the sum of £27.40 to which we agreed. This was close to Christmas and indeed it was returned on Xmas Eve but unfortunately it wasn't fixed and wouldn't power up. After Christmas another call to Nintendo and they agreed to have it back again and this time replace the whole unit, apparently we were now back in warranty having paid for the repair. Today our Wii (well a new one) has come home and is working absolutely fine!!!! So this post is just a heads up and a pat on the back to Nintendo. We were ready to purchase a new Wii but we were blown away by the service. The Nintendo service centre virtually guarantee to repair your Wii for you, and from memory I think the most they will charge is about £65.00.
And whats more theres nothing to lose, Freepost, freephone or even log the repai online. Just search for nintendo service centre.
Best Wishes

Glad to hear it's all working fine now. And thanks to Nintendo and their service centre.
Wife received one for Christmas and we are having fun with it. Now looking for a Wii Fit but no one has any!
Tip: I think you might want to edit the title a little to express the good news and service received.0 -
Nintendo are well known for their excellent customer service.
Our copy of Mario Kart got scratched so I phoned up to see if I could get a new disc cheaper than buying a new copy of the game. They said there was normally a small charge, and they would send me a freepost label to send it back. Sent it back and they replaced the disc free of charge. Excellent service considering we had admitted it was our fault it was scratched. It's my problem, it's my problem

And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Great news from Nintendo,we aslo have a wii which we got when they first came out,so to here this news is good.
Ps3 Knackered..However Sony have taken it back for a quick look because its out of Warranty.
Nintendo Wii.. still going strong and wii love itForum spellcheckers are the pitts.0 -
A wii is a bit like a mac. Technically not as powerful as other consoles for similar price or less, but screwed together a heck of a lot better. And looks pretty.0

I always hear good things about Nintendos legendary outstanding service including one customer service person who told someone not to bother with mail but actually bring it in themselves to the headquarters since they lived in the same city, they then proceeded to apologise that it would take upto 30 minutes for them to fix it and then added another 12 months to her warranty and gave her some shopping credit!
This is after replacing the entire unit with a brand new one and simply porting all the settings from the old.
They are probably one of the best companies to have a problem with lol"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
Great news to hear the Nintendo dealt with it so well - after hearing all the horrrors about PS3's and Xbox's, it is a breath of fresh air.
Out of interest kellyandmatt, what happened to any virtual / download content or games, did you lose those ?
Just glad I have a Wii - GREAT fun for the whole family, who cares it is not as powerful as the other, because it has the power to be fun !0 -

The horrors of Microsoft spending $1 billion to extend Xbox 360 warranties to three years?

I really dislike the Wii. In fact, I struggle to think of a single game for it I want to play.
I'm sure there was one, but it seems to have slipped my mind.0 -

Of course, everyone will have their own opinion, and indeed their own idea of a good console - and I would completely respect that, and never try to argue it.
No different to people opinions on different cars, music etc.
For me, the Wii is great !
BTW - Guitar Hero is good fun, is it not ??0 -

IIRC if the console is repaired by Nintendo (or they replace it themselves), they can/will normally port them over to the new unit, as they have the old one (including all it's ID), and can check what is linked to it
I'm not sure about save games though, as I suspect that would take more time/be more complicated (they would need to access the Wii's internal memory rather than just it's serial number and an accounts database).
It's one of the reasons if the Wii breaks it's better to get it fixed by them, rather than getting a new one from a store (as most of the time, unless it's a very simple problem they will replace it and port the games across).
I think they can/do advise that you put a note in with the broken unit reminding them to do the transfer.
I had to contact them about an original DS having a broken hinge before the lites came out, and they basically said it'll cost x (I think it was £60ish) but i'd get a new unit rather than a repair

Not the horror of Microsoft spending $1 Billion to extend warranties. Rather the horror of them building such a shoddy device in the first place.
It;'s all very well having a three year warranty but when your Xbox breaks and you have to send it off for repair you're still without it while it is fixed.
The Wii is a great machine for it's target audience, families and younger children. There are games suitable for adults like No More Heroes and I must admit I enjoy the odd game of Mario Kart. I've also played the Lego games but I wouldn't buy a Wii either if it was just for me.
PC Gaming is what I like best. I've yet to find any console game that's gripped me like some PC games. It's my problem, it's my problem
