Electric key help required!

Hello, I am writing on behalf of someone. They have recently moved into a rented property and pay their electric on the key. The meter was in debt which they cleared when they moved in, since they have moved in they are putting approximately £10 every 2-3 days, they are just using their appliances averagely, like everyone else - tv, oven, washer/dryer at times etc. They have electric storage heaters, a couple of these are not very efficient. The provider is E-ON. Does this seem about too much or is this about right? The person I am asking for is a single parent. Any help much appreciated :)
Thank you to all posters - very appreciated! :)

Yes seems about right, in fact seems fairly cheap if it includes the heating,on a prepayment meter.

Our unit price is 12.88p per kWh/unit daytime, 5.88p per kWh nightime and 5.48p per kWh night storage heaters. There's also a standing charge of £1.61 per week. We have Scottish Power's 'Compfort Plus' tariff on prepayment meter. I'm currently putting between £35 and £40 a week into the meter and still have logs & coal to buy over and above that. Hope this helps.

    Hi laura549,

    A few things to ask.

Did your friend contact E.ON with the meter readings from when they moved in, along with the date of the move?

Have they received their key from E.ON?

They shouldn't have had to pay off a debt that was already on the meter.

I would ask your friend to check through the settings from the meter, they can do this by pressing the blue button and take a note of each one.

They can then contact E.ON to make sure this is set correctly.

On another note, storage heaters can be expensive to run, I would also get them to check they are on the best tariff for their needs.

    Hope this helps.

    Helena :)

Do E-on have more than one tariff for prepayment meters?

We had a debt from previous tennants, when we moved in but i rang up and they sent me a new key, in my name. You shouldn't be using someone else's key. When you get your own key, it wipes of the debt, that is on there.
Tell her to swap to british gas, essentials tarriff, much cheaper.

    Hi,

I was thinking more along the lines of a one rate or economy 7 tariff, sorry I wasn't very clear :o

bearing in mind we are in a cold spell i would say it is not bad.
if in the future she spreads this out by building up credit during the warmer months then she will not find this time of year such a problem.
