MP3 Player not recognised

Hi - my friend recently bought a new Dell PC. However when he plugs his MP3 Player (which worked fine on the old computer) into the front USB slot, the computer does not acknowledge that it is plugged in. The printer and the webcam work fine through the same USB slot. Any ideas?

What is the mp3 player, it may require drivers loading. Or, to put it another way, did it come with a software disc and has he loaded onto his new PC?

I guess. The other problem encountered now and again is that it might have been assigned a drive letter, now being used by the new computer.
Plug the thing in, right click on 'my computer' and select 'manage'.
Click 'disk management' and see if it's in the list. If it is, right click and select 'Change Drive Letter and Paths' and assign it another letter that's not being used by the new PC.

Because it is windows XP it should not need drivers. However he loaded the CD anyway and it made no difference

I had this problem with my new mp3 player. My computer recognizes everything except this. Tried it at my brothers, no problem. Sorry I can't help but your not alone.
