A nasty on the system

Not sure that this has been mentioned. I had a program attach itself to my puter today. It calls it self Internet Security 2010. It claims to find malware and asks, I think, $49 to remove the so called found stuff.

Now the scary bit was not only when I rebooted I couldn`t access my desktop, it also refused the same in safe mode. Therefore I was unable to remove it. A friend had the same happen. In the end I had to re install my OP. Really very angry about this.

malwarebytes will remove it

there are ways of getting rid of the offending items in the startup to get it to boot, often the Avira Rescue boot CD can remove enough to let you boot

Thanks. I did Malwarebytes and it found a lot of stuff but requested a reboot. That was when I found that I couldn`t get back on.
