Double Mattress advice please!

WE have had a double mattress for about 4 years now, I forget how much we paid for the thing but right now both of us are waking up with rather nasty back aches and pains so we think now is the time for a replacement!
Now it might seem simple but can anyone advise us what to look out for, and how much we should be paying for somthing that might last for at least 5 or 10 pain free years? I would like to pay about £100 but realise I might have to pay more for something decent...
What is the experience of people here?
Thanks,
Olly.

Thankyou, just another question, is it personal preference if you go for hard / soft etc? There is quite a selection at that place! how do I know what I am getting is good value for money?0

It used to be the rule that a firm mattress was the 'good' one to have and they were often describes as 'orthopaedic'. There now seems to be a difference of opinion.
You may find some advice here http://www.spine-health.com/topics/cd/mattress/mattress03.htmlI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
Best thing I would have thought is to go into a big bed shop and try some! Then when you know what suits you search for the best deal! Are you sure you just need to replace the mattress? Dreams do some superb offers.:T0

We've always had silent night one's, cost around £140.00 and last for around 8- 10 years0

I bought the mid priced Silent Night at £165. When I first looked it was down as being firm but seems to have changed to med to firm now.
The mattress is much thicker/deeper than my old one and I need a step ladder to climb on to the bed :rotfl:
The down side is I have had to buy some new fitted sheets but am about to try one I got from Ikea for £5.99, I'll let you know later how it goes0 -

Hi Olly,
I brought my parents new bed and with their new mattress they too experienced back problems. One thing i noticed was that their mattress had 2 curves in it on the area they slept on therefore this is what was causing their backs to hurt. Mattress's usually come with a 10 year guarantee therefore if you just take ur reciept to the shop where you brought it they will arrange for it to be swapped out for either for a like for like or if your mattress is a discontinued one then the next model up.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Dipak0 -
i paid £200 or there abouts for one for the woman indoors because she suffers from severe back problems. it wasnt worth a fraction of that. and did nothing it claimed. so i went and bought one of them memory foam matress toppers. theyre about an inch thick and a damn site better than the mattress.0
