maxtor external hard drive 500gb

hi,

I am trying to format my external hard drive as i had a problem with it but it wont format. I have tryed quick and normal but it keeps coming up with WINDOWS UNABLE TO COMPLETE FORMAT any idea's:mad:

    What problem did you have? Maybe the drive is duff.

    You may want to run this utility on it to check it.
    Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!

    I recently got the same message with a microSD card in a USB card reader - I could see the card reader light not flashing at times- tried another reader and it worked. So it may be a connection problem, can you try another cable?

    it says it has no drivers but i dont know where to get them from?

    Sounds like your USB drivers may need updating. The external hard disk does not have a driver of its own.

    When i connect the external hard drive it says its unrecognised i have tried al sorts to get it to format but no joy is they anything else that i could do?
