Well 167k miles isnt that much to be honest, a diesel run properly could get another 100k before serious problems made it not worth sorting so depends on condition. Any photos?

OK Im going on the fact that its a saloon as you didnt say. They are, with all due respect, worthless. The estate is worth more. If you came to me when I was still in the game and it had a full history and it was in good condition I would see it at £500 and put it on the forecourt at £1990 'trade car to clear' therefore no warranty. I would probably take £1750-1500 for it.

The plus side is that people on ebay go mental for these!

  • loads of life on it, those trade in sites are very low as they rely on desperate people who need money fast

put it in for similar to one on auto trader, keep dropping the price until it sells
  • sorry, it is a hatchback

I'm thinking i might put it in the auction and see what it acheives...

Ebay will be far more lucrative! And dont forget new auction house rules/charges! As an example my ex colleague (friend) now has the opportunity to reject cars at BCA Nottingham after purchase as you now have the right to drive the car after winning. Then theres the auction house charges!! OUCH!! more of a rip off than ebay and paypal combined! (if that were possible!). Gumtree is also an option for an easy sale. If you want any help wording for ebay PM me and I will be happy to help. Alex.

Don't try the auction for anything other than a last ditch attempt for money. You won't get anywhere near what you want for it if you do...

On the car people website the p/x figure is £770, so I would advertise it privately for £995 and be willing to take offers. The diesel xantias were always good news at our local auctions, even with space ship mileages, but I wouldn't recommend selling a private car at auction because it costs a fortune, entry fee if it doesn't sell, entry fee and commission if it does sell.
Try advertising it on gumtree or preloved first because it's free, there is always a market for a large diesel load lugger.

I would definitely recommend ebay for it... sold my old Saxo for more than I expected with no trouble... always amazes me that people will buy cars without ever having looked at them but they damn well do....
