Dodgy Electrical Stuff on Ebay - The stuff that kills

Hi guys.

Who do I report dodgy electrical assesories being sold on Ebay to?

I have informed the seller (business high volume power seller type) & they have refunded me but its not about the money.

I seriously was no more than 2cms away from being electrocuted by one of their electrical leads that has faults in its composition that exposes the copper wiring.

I have reported it to the seller & ebay but I dont think its enough.

These need to be totally withdrawn from sale & safely disposed of, I dont trust Ebay or the Seller (they may withdraw them but I dont know) & they will kill sooner or later...

I agree, I would report it to everyone on the basis that someone might act on it.

Trading Standards are more likely to help - HSE are more trade based than consumer based.

A lot depends on where the seller is too.....if they are in China or somewhere, there is little that TS or HSE could do.

Unless the seller is based in the UK, Trading Standards or HSE will not be interested.

eBay will use "we are just a venue" line, unless somebody does get killed, in which case all electrical items will be publicly banned to death by them on Watchdog.

They are based in the UK.

Whereabouts? The best thing to do is report them to their local TS and let them do the work..!

If you have the postcode of the seller - enter it into this search http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/ (towards the bottom of the page "need help?" bit) and it will give you the e-mail address of the local TS for you to forward the details to.

Most of the Chinese sellers are. Often in Shengzhen, just outside Manchester :p
