Hi,
I am currently in the process of applying for an Irish Passport for our new born daughter.
As I am a EU citizen I have to fill out an Form A, which has to be made before one of the following persons:
1) a person to whom section 5 of the the Dipolmatic and Consular Officers Act 1993 applies
2) a notary public
3) any person who is, by law of the country in which the declaration is made, a commissioner for Oaths or other person authorised to trake affidavits and for that purpose to administer oaths.
Any idea who would that be (except for Notary) and who would be able to sign this in or around Newry?
Cheers,
dsab

Dsab,
Congratulations first of all.
Found this on S2 of the above Act.
This Act applies to the following persons, that is to say:
( a ) a civil servant employed as a head of mission, a member of the diplomatic staff of a mission or a career consular officer; and
( b ) an honorary consular officer appointed by the Minister;
You won't find either in Newry as far as I'm aware, as the nearest Irish embassy in the UK is in London.
Notaries Public in Newry are (according to The Law Society) the following solicitors:

I can't find any information on a commissioner for oaths based in Newry, but I bet if you call the passport office in Dublin they can tell you over the phone (I suspect it might just be a local councillor or similar). The number is 0845 8504321 (can't find a cheaper one!).
Hope this is of some help!0 -
a priest or minster will do it for free0

As a civil servant, I sign UK passport applications for free, but I can't help here due to the circumstances. Neither can a priest / minister. The DFA rules are very tight on signing applications.
I applied for an Irish passport myself 2 weeks ago, and had to get it signed by PSNI, as none of my own colleagues could have signed it.0 -
This is the form I have to sign, and it states only Teachers etc. if it was to be signed in the republic.

Just called the Passport office, and they said a doctor could sign it as well. Hope she is right. As we need the passport quickly (due to upcoming travel) I just want to ensure that they don't have a reason to return the application.
My pharmacist even made 3 different Passport photos to make sure one of them complies with the requirements. Very difficult to get a decent pic with open eyes and closed mouth from a 2 week old girl.0 -

As dsab is NOT an Irish citizen, nor entitled to a descent claim, they have to also fill out Form A which can only be signed by one of those listed above.
That said, they will also have to have form APS2 signed, and that can be done by any of those you have listed.
As I wasn't born on the island due to a freak of timing, I've had to jump through all sorts of hoops these past couple of weeks to get mine, so I can understand why Dsab is having fun trying to get this clarified.0 -

Just to warn you, the applications can take a while to go through. I used the ePassport service (available in post offices in Newry, which costs £6 extra for the staff to check, but has a 10 working day turnaround.
I submitted mine on 23/12/09 in local PO, and the online tracking shows it is due to be isssued on 07/01. Handy if you need it in a hurry.0 -

soory, never seen or filled in that form before, and i have an irish passport, we all have,
read thru the declaration as to when you DONT need to fill that in...eg do you have an irish passport....if so you DONT need that form, as the child is born to irish citizens, i think its section 4,0
