Problems with PSP

Hi, I hope you can help
My son's PSP developed a fault and my husband phoned, subsequently emailed and wrote to the company about it. We didn't hear anything from the company at all.
Eventually, my husband wrote to the managing director but still we did not hear back.
As, my son was so upset and at a loss of what to do, we sent the product back with a covering letter and copies of previous correspondence. We sent it regisitered post and it has been signed for.
Now, 6 weeks later, Sony say that they have lost it as we sent it to the wrong department ( we got the address from their web site) and they had to resend it to the correct one. This is when it went missing apparently. They also say that they did not request that we send the PSP to them, so they are not liable.
Short of taking them to a small claims court. What do we do? Are we in the wrong? My son just wants his PSP back.

What sort of place/site did you buy it from? Did you pay by credit card? If so speak to your credit card company and see if they will do a chargeback and give you the money back - they may be able to do this and if you dont ask you dont get!Weight Loss - 102lb0

We did pay by Credit Card but we bought it through Amazon. I will probably have this wrong but won't the credit card company try, if they agree, to claim back from Amazon?0

I dont know to be honest - was the seller a private seller or Amazon? Either way see what your credit card company will do!Weight Loss - 102lb0

It was actually Amazon. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask but really I guess I want Sony to do the right thing. I know, I'm living in an ideal world. I don't know why, I've been conned by someone off ebay this week too.
Thank you for your help!0 -

Surley if they admit they had it and then lost then they must be liable?0 -

would be inclined to agree.
if someone has signed for it then they have taken responsibility for it. it would have been upto them to make sure it got to where it needed to go. thats the whole point. if sony have lost it, irrelevant of which department it got sent to, then sony are liable. you have sent it to them on the understanding it will be fixed. it isnt your problem. i would be on the dog and bone to sony as soon as asking to speak to an organ grinder and not the monkey. tell them that you sent it there using an address on their website. if the address is wrong then that isnt your fault. its theirs. id also tell them that unless they rectify the problem and either find and repair your psp or send you out another one then you will take things further under the advice of a solicitor0 -
A late update but it's only just occured. We took Sony to the small claims court and won. Finally had our cheque!!0
