Nintendo DS/laptop insurance?

Hi
After just shelling out another £80 for a nintendo DS after the baby got hold of it and broke it I thought about getting some insurance on it.
I have no clue about insurance or even if I can get it for these things.
I cant do home insurance at the moment as my home situation is in limbo but wanted mainly to protect the DS, but also my laptop if possible. Both were bought 2nd hand from a store which gives 1 years warranty but obviously that doesnt cover a 9 month old thinking he can beat his brothers score on Mariokart! ;)
Can I do this? is there anything I should look out for?
Sorry this may sound silly to some but I dont want to be conned!

You can get stand along gadeget cover that will cover the items - google for gadget insurance.

This is very expensive however. Home contents insurance is the best way to insure these items. As soon as you are in a permenant residence, get something sorted in this regard.

Make sure you keep the receipts for the items purchased.

Why don't you keep your DS out of a baby's reach? You should be used todoing that with cleaning products and other breakables. Save yourself some money.

Well firstly it's not MY DS it's my sons, and yes I have told him to keep it out of the babys reach but it's done now isn't it.
I still want insurance as babies are not the only way a DS can be damaged
Oh and what has cleaning products got to do with it, they are kept in a locked cupboard anyway

I think for the amount of premium to cover just the two items you would be better off self insuring and putting the money away until it's needed to fund a new DS/Laptop.

I know it's too late now but Argos are currently selling some colours of DS Lite for £80.

Yes and they offer an insurance product too that is just so simple. It's not exactly cheap (£20?) but I we use these insurances a lot for portable DVD players and laptops and indeed the DS once already. It has proved to be worth the money for us, more than self insuring as everything is bound to get broken in our house :o.

Unless it's covered under warranty you just take the product back and they replace it with a new one. You need to buy a new policy to cover the new product as well but that's it. If it's covered by warranty then they just do a straight swap for you.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • I've already bought the DS.....
  • I have got annual insurance for my daughter's ds lite from Game, think its about £12 per year. It covers everything apart from deliberate and water damage. Hope this helps. :j
