Capital One Classic Approved online, followed by rejection letter?!

Hi all

I applied for a Capital One classic card on about the 27th of December.

I was told online that I had been accepted, signed the online ones, and was told I would have my card in 10-14 days, yay!!

Today, I received a rejection letter from them.

I tried calling them, but the unhelpful indian woman just told me that although I was accepted initially they had then changed their minds due to credit or fraud checks, and then hung up on me when I tried to question further.

I have access to both my Experian and Equifax files, and I have no CIFAS entries. Surely the credit check would have been done before the online acceptance?

What could cause this?!

I'm currently drafting an appeals letter...

A change in policy after your on-line acceptance could cause this.
They might have tightened their checks.

    Good luck with your appeal.

Well i actually applied for one of these this morning and there website said i was approved and i would get my card and pin within 7 working days
sounds great but they have not requested proof of address or I.d is this normal for credit card companies to dish out cards without fining out who you are first.

p.s did they ask for i.d from you mate?
  • they will have checked your identity out using a CRA by checking the electrol roll etc...

if they cannot verify you that way, they will either decline you or refer your application online then contact you asking for proofs.
