I have a NEC DVD RW ND-3500AG as far as i am aware it is a re-writer that writes on dual layer (+) dvd blank discs, however, i have never tried this till today.
i have a 7 gig iso file that im trying to put onto a dual layer + dvd, every time i try to burn it using nero or another burning software tool i get this message
Cannot write to medium incompatable format.
then the disc is ejected.
the disc im trying to use is. Infiniti professional DVD+R DL
why will it not burn??
will some burners only use a certain make of disc??
can anyone help me with this problem

Ive had loads of problems with dual layer writing
My old drive (whatever DELL put in it) just wouldnt have any disc I tried
I replaced with a Pioneer dual layer writer and perosnally found the ONLY discs that have worked properly are DATAWRITE TITANIUMs:idea:0 -
Depends on your firmware, it appears. Do you still get the same error writing a DL disc at 4x ? This seems to be the fastest supported at present by your drive. My LiteOn drive will burn anything I throw in it, so I suspect the discs are not so much the issue but firmware/write speed.
Try using ImgBurn - this produces some excellent debug output.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

You could try a different disk manufacturer as some disks don't work well with some drives (as alienrik has mentioned). You could also try updating the drive's firmware (if applicable)0

You don't say which version of Nero you are using. IIRC, anything before Nero 6 won't handle dual layer, and it seems that even Nero 8 may have problems with some disc formats.
Another possibility is that the drive itself has old firmware which was released before DVD+R DL discs became commonly available. If so, you should be able to download the latest version (2.19) from NEC's website, along with instructions on how to update it.0 -
I have never had any problem with Verbatim DVD+DL discs, pricey but not a single coaster yet. Burnt at x2.4 speed.
I dont suppose your 7gb iso is for an xbox360 is it? just with it being DL+ discs and 7gb iso, sounds familiar :rolleyes:0 -

So anybody needing to burn a 7gb iso must be pirating 360 games?Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Dual layers are very picky, I found best to be these

Burn at 4x I have had errors with discs above 4x even with brand new Pioneer blue-ray player/writer
I tried all sorts of dl on my computer on 3-4 writers and always found them to be one of best0 -

No i didnt insinuate that, I asked the question, then if the OP had said that was what they were trying to use it for I would have told them to ensure that they have set their layerbreak correctly aswell. Not everybody who burns Xbox360 iso's is pirating games you know. Some of us like to make backups! and yes before you mention it i know that it is a murky area.0 -
I backup some data on Dual layers, they can be dodgy can the discs at times to write too but if they burned at slow speed I found them better0

Nero 7 wouldnt work properly for me so I use IMGBURN:idea:0
