well, as a rule of thumb sony normally do good stuff... the reason its so cheap is because theres a deminishing market for anything but LCD and Plasma tvs now.

This will be very big (as in bulky) being a rear projection telly. I stronlgy recommend you go and see one 'in the flesh' before buying.

I personally would much rather buy at a 42" Panasonic plasma than something like this as it wouldn't cost too much more.

    Hi
This model is not a true rear projection. It is LCD rear projection. It uses light shining through an LCD panel to create the picture. Advantages- The depth of the TV is about 35cm. The viewing angle i.e. at what angle you can comfortably watch the screen, without it blacking out) is a lot better than normal projection TVs. It is very cheap for a TV this size.
Disadvantages- Reliability may be a bit of an issue, since it is new technology. It will fill up a small front room.
It is ideal if you have a very large room to put it in. Best viewing distance on this model is around 15 to 20 feet away. These were going out at around £1400 a few months ago, so a grand is pretty good.
Timmy is not wrong about the Panasonics. You can get a floor standing 42LXD60 for around £1500, an absolute bargain.

The new PD60's are even cheaper but not ideal if you plan on SkyHD as the resolution isn't going to give the best pic. possible. Perfect for ordinary Sky or Freeview though.
