splitting one large bedroom into two

Hello,

Are their any handy men out there who can give me a rough guide on how to change one large bedroom into two, how much does this cost roughly? we would need to make a new door in an exsisting wall and move a light = put another one in. their would be one window in each room.

we live in a housing association rented house and I need to write to my landlord first to seek permission. They said if they give permission I then need to ask my local council and someone from there will come round and check it can be done. - does this cost money (someone from the council checking)

next door to us have already done it without any permission it looks great but worry about getting found out. the reason they done it on the sligh is because they said the council tax would shoot up? (we wont do it without permission)

we are really happy where we are and really dont want to move. We have a new arrival on the way!!

can anyone give me any advice??

many thanks,

cazmac

Council Tax wont change unless the property ownership is sold or transferred although any changes made will be held on file and the banding re-assessed once the sale or transfer of ownership goes through.

The only other time it may change if there is a national re-banding for council tax purpsoses.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

Does that mean if you add an extension your rates won't change?

Your correct - the change lies on file until one of those conditions is met.
